Festivals can be fun and exciting experiences, listening to music, making friends and enjoying the food and drink on offer, but it's important to prioritise your safety. Here are some tips to help you stay safe at festivals:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, especially if you're dancing, drinking alcohol or if the weather is hot.

  2. Protect your hearing: Wear earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones to protect your ears from loud music.

  3. Know your limits: Remember, drugs and alcohol can severely impair your decision making. Know when to stop and seek help if you need it.

  4. Keep your valuables safe: Keep your phone, wallet, and other valuables in a secure place, such as a zipped backpack or bag. Don't leave them unattended.

  5. Stay with your group: Stick to your group of friends and keep an eye out for each other. Don't wander off alone, but stay in touch if you need to separate for any reason. It may help to plan meeting points in advance, with frequent check ins throughout the event.

  6. Be aware of your surroundings: Stay alert and aware of your surroundings, especially at night. If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and move away, and consider reporting to festival security.

  7. Reduce your risk of theft: Avoid wearing expensive jewellery or clothing that could be lost, stolen or damaged. Cross-body bags help to keep your belongings close to you and difficult to access for others. If you see someone acting suspicious, consider alerting event security.
