Important Notice: Closure of Licensing SAVI

Since our launch, Licensing SAVI has been proud to support thousands of venues across England and Wales in raising safety standards and reducing vulnerability within the night-time economy.

The initiative has operated for five years however, after review, is to close with effect from 30 April 2026.

·       Effective closure date: 30 April 2026

·       Existing accreditations: If a venue is currently accredited their Licensing SAVI accreditation status remains active for the remainder of their one-year accreditation period, with access to all assets. However they will not be able to renew their accreditation once it expires

·       New applications: We will not be accepting new accreditation applications from venues

National Museums Liverpool achieves 5-Star Licensing SAVI accreditation across four sites

Licensing SAVI is pleased to announce that National Museums Liverpool has achieved 5-star accreditations across four of its public venues. This reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing safe and welcoming environments for visitors, staff and the wider community.

The accreditations cover four sites: the Lady Lever Art Gallery on the Wirral, the Museum of Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery, and World Museum Liverpool. Each venue successfully completed the Licensing SAVI self-assessment, demonstrating a proactive approach to ensuring that their public spaces remain secure, accessible, and supportive of positive visitor experiences.

A spokesperson for National Museums Liverpool said: “We're delighted that our venues have achieved this 5-star standard. Our teams work hard to ensure every event, from wedding receptions to corporate gatherings, runs safely and professionally. This independent accreditation recognises that commitment and gives our clients extra reassurance when choosing National Museums Liverpool as their event partner.”

We are seeing more and more iconic venues think differently about how they use their spaces and showing customers, staff and their local communities that safety and security matters. Well done!”

Licensing SAVI provides venues with a structured, online self-assessment covering a wide range of safety considerations, from preventing violent behaviour, drugs misuse and opportunistic theft, through to guidance on responsible drinking, safeguarding vulnerable people and improving physical security measures such as CCTV and lighting. Most measures recommended through the assessment can be introduced quickly and at little or no cost.

The initiative supports venues to meet the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and to promote its four licensing objectives: the prevention of crime and disorder, the prevention of public nuisance, the protection of children from harm and public safety. The assessment also includes non-assessed guidance on counter terrorism to assist venues in considering wider security issues.

Developed by Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) at the request of the Home Office, Licensing SAVI is the first police award of its kind. It is supported by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and Project Servator. Evidence from recent research in Telford highlights its effectiveness, with participating venues experiencing a 24% decrease in violence with injury offences and a 17.9% reduction in reported incidents.

National Museums Liverpool’s achievement highlights the organisation’s commitment not only to cultural excellence, but also to the safety and wellbeing of the millions of people who visit each year. Their approach demonstrates how cultural institutions can lead by example in prioritising safe social spaces for all.
