Licensing SAVI are proud to be supporting @OnePunchUK #PunchedOutCold campaign, which runs throughout December 2023.
Alcohol often plays a part in one punch assaults, and December, with the festive period, often sees more people out celebrating. Whilst most of the time people may be able to laugh about what they did the night before whilst nursing nothing more than a hangover, what if one drunken action occurs which changes lives? A single punch can cause serious injury, paralysis, a brain injury, or death. The ripple effect of one action will be felt by the family and friends of the victim, and the offender. The #PunchedOutCold campaign aims to highlight how one punch can change lives.
Police CPI’s Mark Morgan said: “We at Licensing SAVI in our policing experience have sadly on many occasions witnessed first-hand the adverse impact of ‘one punch’ assaults, both in causing serious injury and death. The impact upon all involved, especially the victims’ family is simply horrific, with all having been avoidable and remaining prominent in my memory several years later. That’s why we had no hesitation in fully supporting both this campaign and the work of ‘One Punch UK’.
“We ourselves are working tirelessly to support licensed premises in improving standards and interventions which influence safety and behaviours, owing to alcohol and drugs use often being an aggravating factor. Let’s all work together to prevent one punch and like incidents”.
One Punch UK was set up in 2014 to raise awareness about the devastation a One Punch assault can cause. One Punch UK raise awareness by delivering workshops to school, colleges, prisons, probation hubs, clubs and groups, openly discussing all the factors that lead up to a One Punch assault, and making people aware of their actions and the consequences.
Licensing SAVI is the official police security initiative aimed at improving safety and security in licensed venues. Developed in partnership with the Home Office it is designed to help the owners and operators of licensed premises provide a safer and more secure environment for their managers, staff, customers and local communities.
