Deeside’s Crown and Liver Inn achieves 5-star Licensing SAVI safety and security rating

- News

Having recently been recognised by the ‘Top 100 Attractions’ as one of the best places to eat in Deeside, North Wales, namely for its delicious menu and welcoming staff, The Crown and Liver Inn has achieved 5-star safety and security rating from the pioneering, police-led initiative to improve the safety and security of licensed premises, Licensing SAVI.

This impressive accolade has been awarded to The Crown and Liver Inn after their dedication to improving the safety and security of its premises for the benefit of the staff, customers, and local community.

Gareth Lambert, Pub Operator at The Crown and Liver Inn added: “We are over the moon that we have now been awarded 5 stars from Licensing SAVI. Our guests’ safety is paramount in the success of our business, giving the local community a safe pub to enjoy nights out, family gatherings or that impromptu catch up with a friend. When our customers feel safe in their local pub, they come back time after time. A huge thank you to Mark Morgan for helping us achieve this!”.

Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative (Licensing SAVI) is a pioneering, police-led initiative devised and developed by the Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI), police-owned organisation working on behalf of the UK Police Service.

Launched in 2021, Licensing SAVI is one of the latest crime prevention initiatives set up Police CPI and is committed to create and improve safe and secure licensed premises across England and Wales. It works to bring together up-to-date advice and guidance that licensed premises need to meet the requirements of Responsible Authorities in England and Wales, signposting good practice to maximise safety and reduce vulnerability for all customers and staff.

Licensing SAVI have developed a unique and confidential self-assessment tool, as well as personalised advice and recommendations, designed specifically to help the owners and operators of licensed premises provide a safe and secure environment.

This innovative online self-assessment tool combines for the first time all the information that licensed premises need to correctly comply with the requirements of local police and council licensing teams, achieve a star-rating and have the opportunity to apply for Licensing SAVI accreditation and awards.

Mark Morgan, Business Manager at Licensing SAVI commented: “I am delighted to see another accredited venue in Flintshire, and I was really impressed by the safety and security measures in place at The Crown and Liver Inn. Gareth and the team have excellent procedures to maximise safety and Marston’s have clearly invested in good physical security for their venue. Well done all”.

Situated on the outskirts of Hawarden, within the small village of Ewloe, The Crown and Liver Inn is a friendly village pub offering an impressive menu, extensive beer and premium branded drink selection, weekly cask ales and fine wine.

Boasting original wooden beams, quirky features, intimate décor and an outdoor water terrace, The Crown and Live is a real family-friendly pub, serving traditional pub food, with a unique and modern twist.

A recent YouGov survey of 5,050 adults aged between 18-45 commissioned by Police CPI found that 79% of adults agreed with the statement that ‘recent publicity around the safety of women and girls has made it more important for licensed premises to improve their safety procedures’.

Business Development Manager at Marston’s, Zoe Blythe said: “We are extremely pleased that The Crown and Liver has received this award, at Marston’s we pride ourselves on having venues where everyone feels safe to socialise and where employees feel protected and safe whilst at work, the team here really recognise that”.

This survey further highlighted that 81% and 70% of women surveyed felt that safety and security needed to be improved in both bars and clubs, showing the growing concern amongst both men and women for improved safety measures in licensed venues across the UK.

Backed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and Project Servator, a police-led vigilance scheme to deter terrorist attacks at crowded-places, Licensing SAVI is the first police award of its kind and has achieved great success since its establishment in 2021.
